Verbeek report: he won’t sign again with Socceroos (AP)
SYDNEY (AP)—Former Australia goalkeeper Zeljko Kalac says he thinks Socceroos
coach Pim Verbeek will walk away from the country’s national team after the
World Cup in South Africa.
Kalac, who played for Australia at the 2006 World Cup in Germany, said
Verbeek thinks there is little talent coming through to the national team and
that a number of key players are unlikely to be available for 2014.
Football Federation Australia has denied Verbeek has informed the
organization he will quit the Socceroos job after the World Cup in June. FFA
spokesman Rod Allen said there has been no decision and discussions are
continuing.
The Australian newspaper reported Thursday that Verbeek will likely take up
a club position in Japan or his native Netherlands.
